Failure of Ethnocentric Empires, Success of Multicultural "Confederacy"

For the equally eclectic Minoans, Sea Peoples and Philistines, the norm (according to best archaeological analyses) was "loose confederacy": local-tribal independence along with unity around a few major shared characteristics of culture, while keeping closely "entangled" with very different neighbors. With those traits Minoans made life work for over 2000 years, the Philistines for at least 600---and this is a record no "Me First" ethnocentric empire since can come close to.

SO, how do we learn from and build on this TODAY?
